The woman who accused Nelly of sexual assault on his tour bus is dropping her case.
The rapper was arrested on second degree rape charges last weekend, but he later protested his innocence.
According to the alleged victim’s lawyer, she does’t want to testify against the rapper.
On Friday, lawyer Karen Koehler sent a letter to the Auburn Police Department in Washington, where the alleged incident took place, saying her client wanted to “put a halt to the criminal investigation”.
In a letter, she wrote: “We do not live in a society where a 21 year old college student can feel safe enough to pursue criminal charges against a celebrity for an alleged rape.
“People are saying horrible things [about her] already. She cannot handle this. She is about to break.”
It continued: “She never wanted notoriety. She never wanted a dime from that man.”
The letter ended: “One day, maybe our world will change and thirty women will not be needed to (eventually) speak out against a celebrity who has hurt them in order to be believed. But that day has not yet come.”
Nelly’s lawyer Scott Rosenblum released a statement shortly after, which said the accuser’s “reckless accusation, once investigated thoroughly, was exposed for what it was – a fabrication.
“A fabrication that has caused Nelly and his family to suffer emotionally financially.”
He added that the rapper wants a public apology and said he would advise the singer to consider taking legal action against his accuser.
Nelly took to Twitter to address the allegations last weekend, sharing: “Let me say that I am beyond shocked that I have been targeted with this false allegation. I am completely innocent. I am confident that once the facts are looked at , it will be very clear that I am the victim of a false allegation.”
He continued: “I do want to apologize to my loved ones for the embarrassment and for putting myself in a situation where I could be victimized by this false and defaming allegation.
“In other words y’all know damm well I ain’t do no dumm S^*t like this..!! Love ..!!!!”
