The short version
You do not need an account to use Babylon FM. We do not ask for your name, your email, or your phone number. There is no advertising in the app, no analytics package, and nothing that follows you around the internet. The only piece of data the app holds about your device is an anonymous notification token, which cannot identify you.
Who we are
Babylon FM 99.3 is a radio station broadcasting from Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq, operated by Babylon For General Media Ltd. This policy covers the Babylon FM mobile apps for iOS and Android, and the website at babylonfm.net. In this policy, "we" means Babylon For General Media Ltd.
What we collect
Very little, and none of it identifies you personally.
- ▶A notification token. Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging creates an anonymous token for your device when the app starts, so we can send alerts when a show goes live or a new podcast is published. To be precise about it: that token is created whether or not you allow notifications. Declining the permission stops alerts appearing, it does not stop the token existing. We send alerts to broad topics such as "shows" or "podcasts", never to individuals, so we do not store your token on our servers and we cannot use it to tell one listener from another.
- ▶Technical request data. When the app or site loads the schedule, the charts or the live stream, our servers and our streaming provider receive the request. Like any web server, they see your IP address, the approximate time, and basic device information. This is used to deliver the content and to keep the service secure, and it is not combined with anything else or used to build a profile.
- ▶Anything you choose to send us. If you fill in the contact form on the website, we receive whatever you type into it, including the email address you give us, so that we can reply.
What we do not collect
- ▶No accounts. The app has no sign up and no login of any kind.
- ▶No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- ▶No analytics package. We do not measure which screens you open or how long you listen.
- ▶No location. The app never requests location access.
- ▶No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
- ▶No cookies set by this website, and no tracking pixels or tag managers on it.
What stays on your device
The app saves a copy of the schedule, shows, podcasts and charts to local storage so that it opens instantly and still shows something useful on a poor connection. It also caches images. All of this lives only on your phone, is never sent anywhere, and is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
Services we rely on
We keep these to a minimum. The ones we do use are:
- ▶Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which delivers push notifications. Google processes the device token described above. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
- ▶Our audio streaming provider, which delivers the live broadcast and receives your IP address in order to send you the audio.
- ▶YouTube. Podcast episodes are hosted on YouTube. Tapping an episode opens the YouTube app or website and hands you over to Google entirely. From that point Google's terms and privacy policy apply, not ours, and we receive nothing back about what you watch.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. There is nothing to sell.
Children
Babylon FM is a general audience music and talk station. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, write to us and we will delete it.
How long we keep things
Server logs are kept only as long as needed to run and secure the service. Messages you send through the contact form are kept for as long as needed to deal with them. Because there are no accounts, there is no profile of you to retain, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your device.
Your choices and rights
- ▶Notifications can be turned off at any time in your phone settings, which stops alerts appearing. The device token itself is created by Firebase when the app starts and is not something the app can switch off. Uninstalling removes it.
- ▶Uninstalling the app deletes everything it saved locally.
- ▶Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to ask for a copy, or to ask us to delete it. Since we do not run accounts, this will usually only apply to messages you have sent us. Write to us and we will help.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be described in the release notes of the app version that introduces them.
